Darods should aim for the speaker's position

We need to think outside the box if we want to get out of this never ending charade. This position might be seen as inferior for the Hawiyes and Darods, but it might be a game changer. I will put forward a possible scenario if a Darod gets this position. First of all, if a Darod gets this position, there's no way a Hawiye will become president, because the Darod MPs will vote for whoever is running against them. Secondly, let's assume the Rahanweyn gets the presidency, I highly doubt that they would prefer a Hawiye PM over a Dir PM. Rahanweyns and Dirs side with Hawiye over Darods, but it's a whole different equation with Dblock out of the picture.

One of the many reasons why we are in this vicious circle is because we have a weak, docile parliament speaker. With a strong Darod speaker, they can effectively dissolve anything that goes against their interest through the parliament. Nowadays whenever Hawiyes and Darods clash, the parliament speaker's position is often the tipping point. Darods should aim for the legislative branch of the government.

Another postive outcome is that the Hawiyes might not cooperate with a government led by Rahenweyn and Dir. Making it difficult for the new administration to function in Xamar, and therefore raising questions whether Xamar should be the seat of the government. Let's step aside and turn allies into rivals and see what happens.

Ethiopia is now pushing for Xidig who's Ogaden to be the speaker. This guy and the Ethiopians are anti-federalism. Darod should bring forward a pro-federalism hawk for this often neglected position. Yuulka would be an excellent candidate.

I was thinking about this for a while now, but I think it won't work. There is a reason why everyone sees the speaker position as being lower. The speaker can only set the agenda, he cannot dictate his decisions like the PM or the President. It would be a terrible blow to drop to third place especially during this upcoming 4 year cycle when so much is on the table. Do not for a second think that D&M will work with Darod on anything. They absolutely despise Darod, and will always side with Hawiye in a dispute. They hate us for looking down on them and feel a power trip when they remove a Darod president or PM. They are a lowly people (sab) who have been given undue power because of their minority status in the eyes of the IC. If a D&M becomes president, the PM will without any doubt be Hawiye.

We should make it clear that we will go for the presidency and the leadership of the senate, it sets a bad precedent for us to accept anything less. Remember, we own 2 of the 6 federal states, and live in 11 of the 18 gobols, accepting the PM position was enough of a downgrade. Any Darod who runs for speaker deserves a bullet in the forehead because we are basically guaranteed either the presidency or the PM otherwise.

Well it's no wonder D and M don't like Darood when you say they are lowly because they are Sab.

Where did you get the idea that the Ethiopians are against federalism (a system their own country follows)? Ethiopians don't have any reason to be against a federal Somalia, but they do have reason to be against a unitary Somalia which is more likely to make irredentist land claims.

When it comes to imposing federalism, I think Ethiopia can be a good ally for the Darood. We should work to cultivate good ties with the Abyssinian highlanders (I start liking them them after they fumigated several thousand HGs and crushed the hutu court union).

Federalism is the best thing for the Darood---our land land mass will give us a systematic advantage against the hutus. Federalism will also cause tensions between the hutus and their low life raxanweyn and dir allies. Already, with the loss of Lower Shabelle to Southwest state, we are seeing the tensions going off. Let's hope they take the machetes to each other soon (they've already started).

While they're busying killing each other, we can continue rigging the system to advantage us. Darood has ruled Somalia for a hundred years and we aren't going to drop off now.

As you suggest, moving the capital away from the ruined, abgaal-infested cesspool known as Xamar is very important. I don't think any major political change is needed to even make that happen.... I think if Darood itself collectively came together and decided to make a push to change the capitol, it would happen.

I think the capitol should be moved to Barawe.

It's not only the politicians. Not even 10 posts in the thread and we're seeing idiotic maniacs already.

honestly I'm tired of somalis living abroad trying to promote these hunger games when they know they would never want it for where they live. Because they don't have to live with it, just cheer for it from miles away.

D&M never mattered in Somali politics before 4.5, and will go back to not mattering after this stupid formula goes away. Their seats in parliament were taken away from my subclan which is larger than all of D&M put together, they are usurpers who will be shown their place inshallah.

Doesn't that just prove that 4.5 is not a good system? They do matter when it comes to Somali politics as they are Somalis and such sentiment only causes more hostility from them.

You want change? How about an even more radical move like Darood being shut out completely? That's what I support. Anything else would be more of the same.

Seriously, not having the PM position or the Presidency during the next 4 years would be a total unmitigated disaster. There is literally no upside to it at all. Hawiye and D&M would have free reign in drawing the border of PL/JL, how elections are run, creating parliamentary districts, making Banadir a federal state, resource sharing laws etc.... we have a tremendous amount to lose if we do not have the power of PM at least.

You're betting on someone who has your interests at heart winning or being nominated (Farole) vs someone who shares a clan with you but hates everything you stand for ( Farmajo). That's not a chance I want to take. We shouldn't even participate in this charade if there's even a small chance someone like that could win. Will you celebrate if Farmajo wins? It will be a "Darood" win after all.

Take it easy Darood will get the PM. Jawari is running for the Speaker, so it rules out sakin running for the Presidency and PM. Which means theirs only one place left for Darood.

Yes, I will celebrate a Farmaajo win because he will not put P/L or J/L borders into question. He is also more likely to be more fair in apportioning aid than a Hawiye or a D&M. Farmaajo hates Puntland, but he can be forced to represent our interests, this would not be the case with a Hawiye/D&M PM and President. Cumar Cabdirashid is xoolo, but he is my second favorite after Dr. Faroole. Clan matters, even if the person representing you is from a subclan you don't have a great history with.

The only way we can get out of this situation is if Gaas manages to hold an election in Puntland in 2019. Our only hope out of this is population based districts and direct elections. Elections favor us, while 4.5 favors D&M and Hawiye. A national election in 2020 should be the ultimate goal.
