In the Bible Cush is the son of Ham who is the son of Noah. Cush encompasses the modern day states of the Horn of Africa and North East Africa, where the River Gihon (the Nile) flows through. Cush is the brother of Mizraim (Egypt), Put and Canaan (ancestor of the Phoenicians and subsequently the Lebanese). Cush fathered Nimrod who built Babylon.

It was a silly choice of name, but it wasn't that incorrect either. As the original Cushites did come from the area of the Kush Empire, but centuries earlier.
The area of the Kush Empire also used to be Cushitic speakers in the past, before it became linguistically Niloticized.

This is a confusion due to mistranslation. Cush in the Hebrew Talmud refers to Sumeria and Babylon, and Kush is in the Hebrew Talmud Casluhim son of Mizraim. This gets confused because in the Greek Bible they translate Cush as Ethiopia, which is Kush.
The New Testament was written in Greek first and then translated into Hebrew later, so Ethiopia gets translated to Cush, but this is incorrect. This is why there is so much confusion about Cush, which is in Iraq in the Talmud but is in Sudan in the New Testament.
To add to the confusion in modern times Ethiopia has moved further south to its present location so:
Old Testament Ethiopia (Cush): In Iraq
New Testament Ethiopia (Cush): In Sudan
Modern Ethiopia (Cush): In Ethiopia

We know this is true also because the Philistines in the Talmud are descended from Casluhim son of Mizraim, and later Greek records say the Philistines are descended from Ethiopians, which is translated in English (via Hebrew) into Cush again.
The Casluhim lived in Nubia and also Upper Egypt, apparently the people of Upper Egypt and Kush were related in ancient times and were the same ethnic group, but distinct from the Lower Egyptians who were 3 different tribes.
There were religious differences too for instance the Upper Egyptians and Kushites worshipped Amun and the Ogdoad pantheon, whereas the Lower Egyptians worshipped Osiris and the Ennead pantheon.
Really the Cushite languages should be renamed the Casluhite languages, and Sumerian should be put in the Cushite languages, but I think this translation error is 2000 years old and I doubt anyone is going to change it.

They're not exact 1:1 it's basically Bronze Age Hebrews understanding of the nations of the world and how they are grouped together.
So where do you think Cushitic speakers fall into? Are they Phutites or Casluhim?
