Mucad, whose family is from Somalia, was with his father and brother at the Masjid Al Noor in Deans Ave when the shooting began. His father and brother escaped. Mucad was "energetic, playful and liked to smile and laugh a lot," his brother Abdi Ibrahim said. He was born in Christchurch.

Abdullahi Dirie, 4
Abdullahi died and his father Adan was shot at one of the mosques. Four of his siblings escaped unharmed. His family fled Somalia in the mid 1990s. He was the youngest in the family and was born in New Zealand.
Abdukadir Elmi, 70
Elmi arrived in Christchurch with his family about 10 years ago from Somalia and settled in Halswell. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, five sons and four daughters.
