Convert the diaspora to go' shaal iyo shaadh iyo macawiis

Last couple of days i have realised this is the way forward for somali fashion 100% for multiple reasons. One because khamiis is not somali fashion its muslim fashion. And two because the jubad / jouke is too formal i.e. i would only see it useful for weddings. Also its my personal inclination to the patterns jubadna looks too minimal too restrictive because its hinges on khamiis design. I want something that i can be drippy in but also run a small sprint you get what i'm saying

Also as far as i know i think this is more popular in back home but in diaspora is basically non existent. Everyone mocks macawiis without thinking maybe it should pair with something else you know like a certain shirt or garment or something. I wish for the diaspora to notice more

I choose the red colour scheme because red looks fire Also note that this red patterns is fine islamically because it is not a pure red khaalis rather there are other colours mixed in like the yemeni xullad in the hadiith. I prefer how it is worn in the second image but it is extremely low quality image and i think the site is down so i just took the first image as well

I highlight also the way the shaal is worn either should be draped like this or tied around your body or around your neck fastened. I detest so much the folding of the shaal onto one shoulder as most people do i have soo much ciil towards that style it looks stupid and if you do that on jimco just leave the shaal at home and go in your khamiis i would prefer you do that than fold a shaal on your shoulder. Same with the wrapping on 2 shoulders like a gym towel you are disrespecting the shaal like that

People talking about we need hanfu movement in somalia and see this and probably say no not like that. Bcause they would feel shame for expressing their culture at all in a different country. This the poison of assimilation i saw someome mention before i think Sophisticate

There is an issue with wearing the shaal draped in the manner i wish and that is if i do any sort of physical activity or body manouver the cloth will just fly off. I have ruminated this for about a minute and realised i could just sew colour matching buttons on the shaadh shoulders and position the shaal over it in ideal positioning. Then cut holes where the buttons will enter and clean it up on sewing maybe if you are perfectionist. Now i can run all i like without my shaal running away from me

One of the stronger arguments for this outfit is that it can be paired with koofiyad baraawe which has as of late started to grow on me. Its one of the issues with the jubbad because traditionally jubo is paired with a turban and the turban is unique in its non-versatility outside of the somali countryside or even just a traditional photoshoot. However koofiyad is more suitable for the modern day and still not compromising on the culture. Koofiyad is the vital addition because we as a people are not well equipped genetically to live in a hatless society to say the least. Literally anyone who is balding right now and isnt getting a transplant or even if you got transplant who cares wllh just wear koofiyad and live your life. Or bear the head and the ceeb

What is the issue. I see it as a perfect eid outfit in the west for example also people always wonder what a macawiis pairs with instead of a vest. This is the answer

I actually like your idea. The second reference photo you shared looks very nice and I’d personally like to see it worn more often.

I drew up a macawiis/ shaal (or futa benadiri) design in the Somali design discord one of the members here started. I’ll share it here tho:

The shawl is first draped over the shoulder and then the remainder of the fabric is wrapped around the waist. It can be held together with a belt or tied with the knots hidden. The way it’s wrapped is inspired by this laba go’ style:

This would require a pretty long shawl tho.

That is a nice design of shaal however in your design i take issue with the undershirt, in my opinon the sleeves are too long and narrow it ends up being unflattering for faarax gacmo baasto, i would either shorten it to tshirt or similar or i would make the sleeve much wider or i would do both. Also add pattern to the shirt it looks too plain, maybe alternate to floral could be like the chequered like smart shirts worn now but more saturated/darker colours than they use

The hangool i forgot about that add whatever tusbax. Also the constant colour dark blue makes it look nigerian idk. Use different shades for each part
