ERIGAVO– Col. Caare, a renegade commander of the defense forces stationed in Sanaag has refuted rumors that he will join Puntland, the number one rival of Somaliland. Col. Caare said that he does not intend that his soldiers will join and will be adsorbed by Puntland armed forces. He clearly stated that Puntland provided him and his soldiers with a military base. The Colonel firmly asserted that he defected from Somaliland in order to wage war against the republic and emancipate his region from SL control. He further added that every one is to consult with his region and that the firing bullets will start inside. He took an instance for the deceased former Ethiopian PM, Meles by saying that he launched his guerrilla fight against Mengistu from Mogadishu after Said Bare offered him a base. He also said that the Somali National Movement (SNM) kicked off its revolt against Said Bare regime from Ethiopia. Col. Caare said that he was granted the base and militia soldiers are pouring as he promised to speak to the media about his revolt against Somaliland.

HARGEISA– The government of Somaliland has spoken of its covert plan against the formation of a rebel group in eastern Sanaag headed by renegade Col. Caare, a former commander of SL defense forces.

Somaliland’s Defense minister, Hon. Isse Ahmed Yusuf said that Col. Caare has not been expelled from the national army and seems to be mobilizing militia solders a distric that is 15 km away from Qardho. The minister has blamed the defected Colonel as being an obstacle to peace in El Afwein. Hon. Isse asserted that Somaliland authority initiated talks with the defected Colonel who is now in charge of a rebellion against the government but the talks did nor produce results. The minister has reiterated that if dialogue does not work then the government will take all options on the table including a military action against his rebels. Mr. Isse, the minister in charge of defense said that Col. Caare has gone to Puntland and he further added that Puntland won’t provide support to his rebellion. The minister has announced that Somaliland cannot tolerate his actions of forming an insurgency inside the country as the nation has matured that the barrel of the gun won’t be a resolution to grievances.

The motive of Colonel Caare who renegaded from Somaliland defense forces is still obscure.

Those things take time, planning and funding not overnight. For now his focus is Sanaag. After
that different cells will be created in the other regions. Rest assured though we are masters of

The real prize is Berbera and Hargeisa. What should be done is economical sabotage (attack Berbera port and Hargeisa airport should be closed). That will make sure Somaliland is financially crippled first.

Yes if he only wants to focus on Ceelafweyne, we share no common interest in that. But he said in the interview that his views are clear and his aim is whole of Sanaag.

He might have grievances today but in due time they can be talked about. And I very much doubt there is going to be full HY/HJ war, couple of subclans in Sanaag might hate each other, but in most other places there is no animosity like that. You are delusional niyohow. Caare has clear goals and that is for Sland to leave all of Sanaag
(like it was as late as 2002). As for Puntland they have nothing to do with how his army will operate (since the army will come under him and they will be locals of Sanaag). You are obsessed with MJ, the base in south eastern Sanaag is not even in MJ land.
