Civil war separated families

so my dad usually visits one of his siblings every summer. He rotates since he has siblings in Somalia, Canada, And Dubai. He recently went to Dubai last summer to visit his brother. He is going to Canada soon.

Lucky my grandmother, one of my uncles and my aunt live in Canada. I have two other uncles one in Dubai and one left in Somalia. So my dad visits his mom a couple times a year. Uncles and aunts have children that are scattered as well. Like cousins in Dubai, saudi, Germany, and etc.

Anyway I asked my dad when was the last time he was in the same place with his entire family. Or had like a family get together/ family reunion. He replied with “before the civil war”

Once the war started everyone sort of just scattered. My grandmother hasn’t seen one of my uncle in Somali in 10 years. She hasn’t seen my uncle in Dubai in 7 years.
I can’t imagine not seeing my mom in 10+ years.

But anyway I legit have no real relationships with anyone on my dads side of the family. I only met my family in Canada like once for a 2 week vacation with them when I was 13. Besides them I haven’t met anyone else on my dads side of the family. They are basically strangers to me.

Anyone else here in the same situation as me?.

I know somali kids in the same situation as you. Most of the time it’s because the pops helped the wife and kids leave somalia and he stayed behind

My mum was the 5th child of seven kids. Her two younger siblings and one of her older siblings I met. She only had one brother who was the youngest and he used to live with us until he passed away. My auntie lives in the Netherlands and I see them every year or 2. My mums older sibling lives in a city near London so I see her often.

My dads side of the family I do not know. I’ve never met any of his brothers and I know he had like 6. He doesn’t really talk about his family but I know...

I never met any of my grandparents but I used to talk to both my grandmothers on the phone. Only one of my grandmothers are alive now so IA I get to meet her soon.

And yeah damn I just remembered that I don’t know if my dads side of the family have kids or not.
