These people need to settle down. Most of the arab names that somali people have are pulled from the quran. The Quran just happens to be in arabic :mjdontkno:

Abdi only is wild abdilahi or something is better but abdi alone these people would not survive a arab neighborhood

Stronger culture heavily influencing or eliminating weaker cultures. Been happening since the dawn of time.

Be content with the Somali language still being spoken, unlike other Afro-Asiatic tongues that have been largely eliminated by Arabic in Northern Africa & Levant/Iraq.

ignorant arabs make me cringe this is why the Quran came to them first.
I was always wondering if the use of Arabic language in islam is totally necessary in some parts of Islam. Like isn't it a good thing to have a somali translation of quran to understand the holy texts?

Christians can read their book in their own language and understand it. Main problem is that the Christians are too used to modifying their book and the meaning of large chunks were lost in the many translations that the bible became corrupted and no longer contained it's original message.

We should keep Arabic so that the meanings of the message isn't lost in several translations and we can always go to the original quran if we want to understand something in it's original form which Christians cannot do. But I like the idea of a somali translation being made and distrubuted so the average somali could understand the meaning of the Quran instead of having to learn a new complex language whilst still having the original Arabic on hand.
I'm not talking about the random somali translations you see online, there are many concepts in Quranic Arabic which doesn't exist in the somali language so scholars should create new words to cover that. There should be a large team of Islamic scholars and somali language specialists to create as accurate a translation as possible. This would be very good for the average somali and give our people a better understanding of quran and could possibly be used to spread literacy.

what the hell in Somalia they should have somali only translation so people can understand the meaning of Allah eternal words there is no point reciting and not knowing a single thing. Yes ofcourse is praiseworthy to recite the Holy quran no matter what but understanding it is extremely important in order to apply its teachings to oneself. Still shocked a whole country like somalia has an Arabic translation. Embarrassing.

It's mostly just cause religion. Most white people are named after names of Hebrew origin. Most Ethiopians & Eritreans are named after names in the bible. Ect.
A Somalized version of those names like issa(Arabic) --> ciise(Somali) could become widespread but most just settle for straight Arabic names in the Quran. You won't see a somali called Abbas ibn ibrahim or some shit. This whole Arabic names thing is just weird when no one bats an eye to literally every other cadaan having a name from the bible.

I personally would name my kids traditional somali names and a few names from the Quran.
