Question to forum

What kind of policies would you put in place to prevent this from happening in Somalia in the future?

Outlaw 'blind bidding' - that's what they are doing in Toronto, this means people are making offers much higher than the house's worth and it just keeps climing.
There needs to be cap on the price of houses or it has to be realistic in regards to how much the land is worth-how much the property is worth in terms of building materials and so forth.

Their house prices are no where near as bad as Australia.

Sydney and Melbourne are more expensive than Toronto.

Greater regulation is definitely required in the housing markets in the West.

I personally don't see why we should have to buy land in our own Countries (in Africa) when it comes to shelter.

Every family should be constitutionally guaranteed a certain size in plots of land; the materials required to build a house should belong to some level of Government, so that people would only have to pay for the cost of materials (at cost of production) and the cost of labour.

State Governments should own concrete and brick factories in addition to timber farms; people would still need to get (much smaller) mortgages, but home ownership would not be constrained by the profit motive.

PS: Apologies for the late response; I didn't even realise that you had responded -- as I had received alerts that kind of swamped yours out.
