Can you separate the art from the artist?

Yes.
and we all already do saying otherwise is just hypocritical or ignorant.

I'm being general here since I don't listen to music.

Nearly everything we own was basically made through the use of child slave labour yet we all carry on or don't care because we separate the art from the artist

Yes,
Art Is Not Religion.
SJW's on twitter whine that a certain artist shouldnt be liked bc he had a bad past. Art isnt sacred, they want us to put art over religion.
The authenticity of Hadith exists (where if a person was a liar, a thief, or an adulterer isn't deemed honest, therefore the chain is weak), because our relgion is sacred, not art.

Art has no social utility, it's entirely metaphysical most of the time. and we consume it passively

Bad take.

Art is the force behind culture, history, and societal values. It cultivates a deep sense of knowing oneself. It’s the vehicle used to translate ideas, values, emotions, and opinions across space and time.

It’s the single constant across humanity.

im reffering to what art has degenarated into now, as we know it, in the post modern world.
yes there are excpetions such as Ivan Turgenev playing a significant role in shaping public opinion and contributing to the discussion on serfdom in Russia during the 19th century.
i guess the question is: does art have to passivley or activley be consumed for it change a Society. for example our current state of xalimo's consuming wattpad fanfics, how does that exactly shape culture?

stop getting off topic, about whether art is utalitarian or not.
whats your stance anyways? do you personally seperate the artist from his art?

Non-sequitur?

Yes, I can separate the two. I don’t believe my consumption says anything about my support for the artist. I can contextualize the art as a standalone thing—existing separately.

It goes without saying that having some context to the artist’s background does provide clarity to the narratives they imbue in their work but regardless I don’t hesitate to separate the two.

If the artist is controversial, I pirate and consume away.
