In my opinion, @Basra is on the ball here in terms of the government appealing to diaspora Somalis to invest back home in-exchange of seducing them for a free land. With conditions like homes and businesses (industrial or residencies zones) should be built with a certain period and can't be sold, then, it would create massive investments and job creation for the locals. Somali entrepreneurs might be able to establish building materials factories like cement and others which will boost the local economy and the coffers of the government via taxation. This 'free land' is practiced in many parts of the Western world if a firm (foreign or local) can create certain amount of jobs in areas selected by the authorities. Good way of stimulating the local economy. Bravo Eeddo @Basra . What about Alshabab?

There's literally 600 billion square meters of land in Somalia.

Giving away 0.1% is enough land to build 6 Xamar sized cities on.

Also make it tax free for the first five years.

Even if they don't pay tax the people they hire and the services they'll use will.

If just 0.01% gets developed at $100/sqm then that's 6 billion dollars in economic activity for just the development.

Just that alone will double our economy.

This can definitely kickstart our private sector.

Everyone atm is just solely fighting over the donations of Europe and NGOs.

Somalia is a unsafe nation for business due to clanism and corruption. Any business that is started in Somalia currently has a slim chance of success.

Once Somalia becomes a safer nation, it will naturally transform into a attractive destination for business and investment.

Trying to fix the economy before dealing with clanism and corruption is like worrying about the little toe while losing the foot.

I think we're talking about two different things. My argument is that the government doesn't have enough resources to focus on multiple things at the same time. The current Somali government is too young and undersized to handle a variety of interests.

Although I agree that a prosperous and stable economy is indisposable to a successful nation. I strongly feel that the government needs to direct it's finite resources to deal with clanism and corruption. That's the only way forward in my opinion.

however if a private citizen or a business person from the West wants to invest in the Somalia I think that's great. But the government has bigger fish to fry than giving the diaspora free land to revitalize the economy.

Each state on average has 100,000 sq kilometers.

They could do this on their own.

Puntland could easily quadruple their economy within a year if they offered free land in return for development.


Give away idle valueless resources in return for billions of dollars in tax and tens of thousands of jobs.
