successful black ppl today become a part of white institutions, move to white areas, and then marry out. even if they dont, their kids will bc theyve been assimilated into whiteness. they dont give back. theres nothing unifying them. black wallstreet only existed cuz they couldnt get into the real wallstreet. black americans are super poor bc unfortunately the best of them "upgrade" out as sad as that sounds
in a lot of ways, Somalinimo is the same. it takes someone to hurt us for all (or at least most) of us to come together momentarily, before we fracture and split into a million pieces again. but at least on a clan or sometimes subclan level theres pride in onesself and people helping each other. they dont even have that.
Somali national/ethnic identity will probably never turn into that unifying force that some other groups like some Europeans and Jews have. But i dont think its completely impossible for us to follow the khaleej model of development and have a clan that conquers and subdues all the others to create the hierarchy thats necessary for a robust civilization. otherwise, i really only see somalia developing enough with the promotion of local governance not federal. top down just doesnt work for a culture like ours
