Ethnicity is a murky concept. They can emerge out of nowhere and can be redefined all the time. You could say that African Americans (hate this term, prefer to call them Black Americans) are now a new ethnicity.

I don't really consider New World groups ethnicities. All Blacks in the US are primarily of West African descent, they just don't know what region most of their ancestry comes from.

I can't take seriously people who retain the names of their slavers and make very little attempt at regaining their identity. They are without ethnicity, which is why they lack any social cohesion when they live in ghettos by themselves.
