A Pakistani doctor who helped American intelligence track down and kill Osama bin Ladenhas been transferred to an unknown location because of possible threats to his life, a Pakistani official and a family member said.

Shakil Afridi, who assisted the CIA in finding bin Laden, was being held in a prison in the northwestern city of Peshawar where he has languished for much of the past eight years for alleged connections to banned organisations.

Afridi's lawyer, Qamar Nadi, said his client had been held in solitary confinement in Peshawar's central jail.

A senior prison official told AFP news agency on Friday that Afridi was moved to a safer place by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) spy agency late on Thursday.

The doctor's brother, Jamil Afridi, confirmed that government officials informed him Afridi "has been moved to a safer place".

According to local media reports, the provincial government requested that Afridi be moved out of Peshawar's prison because of the presence of Taliban fighters among the inmates, which they said posed a heightened threat to his life.

Controversial scheme

I knew bin Laden
Afridi participated in a fake vaccination programme in Abbottabad - a city 150km north of the capital Islamabad - as part of a controversial scheme by the CIA to identify the whereabouts of the former al-Qaeda leader.

US special forces entered Pakistan by helicopter and killed bin Laden in a raid in Abbottabad in May 2011.

Afridi was subsequently arrested by ISI agents and sentenced to 33 years in jail for alleged links to banned groups.

Some US legislators believe the surgeon was being punished for collaborating with the CIA.

US President Donald Trump said during his election campaign he would press Pakistanto release Afridi.

"I'm sure they would let [him] out. Because we give a lot of aid to Pakistan," Trump said at the time, adding Pakistan "takes advantage like everybody else".

In 2016, after Washington's threat to cut aid to Islamabad, Afridi's sentence was reduced by 10 years.

Do you guys believe that terrorism even exists? I am starting to doubt it in all honesty. We all kill!!! what makes one a terrorist? How many civilians are killed by the west have u added it up? just because a state kills you is no different to being killed by a terrorist the end result is the same, your fuckin dead lol. Do you see anyone holding bush accountable for the murders he ordered in Iraq? but they will hold Hitler up to account for the same shit?

I think at the end of the day, it's just people with different views and they seek to enforce their views through force, one thru state means and another thru non state means. The only difference I can see between them is who leads to better outcome in their view, nothing much else really and yes it is highly possible the most radical disturbing view might actually be a better outcome for the world as strange as that sounds but you can't dismiss it as terrorist, we all are terrorists to a certain extent and the only way we can judge is what leads to a better outcome between the views not much else.

The only thing I don't like about the so called terrorists is they wanna put us all under one world system and disregarding diversity, without diversity we can't operate in all honesty. Spread the people out there is better chance of survival in the long run, better chance of new ideas not constricted by one world thinking, and it hasn't looked good in history with those who amassed such big empires who crumble eventually and everything dies with them. U wanna put us all in one room, we could all die in one room is wat we forget to mention.

Look at the impact globalism has had on us and that is one world trade system, we now all share the same diseases which was never the case before as we were separated and in different environments and different foods. We all dying of the same stuff nowadays. Diversity is the key to survival and there is no denying that because look around you, nothing looks the same in nature and your telling me to go against that standard? that's not something I am prepared to do. That's the only reason I dont like terrorism, it's not cause they kill because we all do, its not cause they have radical views, cause we all can have them, it's just it doesn't lead to a nice outcome by going against diversity

Spreading of democracy also is no different to spreading of islamic extremism, it's trying to seek to force others to adopt their ways and it uses a number of methods like aid, threats even and complete destruction like happened to japan. We cant respect people operate differently.
