Location: Meskel Square in Addis Ababa and the Oromia Region

Event: The U.S. Embassy is aware of calls for a protest to be held on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Meskel Square. It is unknown whether the protest has been or will be approved by Ethiopian authorities. Protests have already occurred in many parts of the Oromia region since March 6, and additional protests may materialize.

U.S. Embassy personnel are advised to avoid Meskel Square and limit movement around Addis Ababa on Sunday, March 10. U.S. Government travelers have been advised not to arrive or depart Bole International Airport on Sunday, March 10, and U.S. Embassy personnel are also temporarily prohibited from traveling to Oromia.

Actions to Take:

Monitor local media for updates.
Avoid crowds
Avoid demonstrations.
Be aware of your surroundings.
Keep a low profile.

The way democracy works is he does his time and you let your voice be heard come election time. ethiopia was hamstrung by the past minority govts who went out of their way to suppress and subjugate the majority oromo population.they created lot bad feelings and enemity towards the largest ethnic group who atlast see some light at the end of the tunnel and want to govern as oromo govt just like the amhara and tigranyans did,,they not comfortable with inclusive govt when its their turn and see abiy ahmed as a figure head .one would think the ethnic hatred in ethiopia is more explosive than the eye can meet.
one thing that keeps ethiopia intact is the lack of a coast and every ethnic group realises they can not stand by thmslvs.

true but somalis are not majority and r recent arrivals as they were incorporated to ethiopia in 1954. most of thm dont speak amharic,didnt live inside ethiopia proper like addisbaba and couldnt blend in like marriage,religion,proximity and also resistance toward their new environment,you could say they were not really part of ethiopia cos they neva get involved in ethiopian political or social structure. the last 20yrs is the first time they eva managed to come to terms with their reality and accept ethiopia largely due to the policies of late zenawi who extended and olive branch and help rebuild the region.and thou they too suffered much , oromos by far got the brunt of it.

remember only one ethnic group dominated at a time.
