Be Content with Fate

In the early hours of Friday on the 12th of Shawwāl 545 AH, Shaykh Abd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī said:

It is narrated that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: ‘Allāh does not punish his loved one but He sometimes tests him.’

The believer knows that Allāh does not put him through tests unless it is for some benefit—in this world or the hereafter; and so he accepts calamities, is patient with them and does not blame his Lord. And so His Lord keeps him distracted from the calamities.

O you who are busy with the world! Don’t speak of spiritual ranks, for you speak with your tongues and not your hearts. You turn away from Allāh, from His Speech, from His Prophets and their followers—they who are the deputies and trusted ones. You argue with destiny and Divine Power whilst being pleased with the gifts of the creatures rather than the gifts of Allāh.

What you say will not be considered by Allāh or His pious servants until you repent, make your repentance sincere and stay firm on it. You must accept destiny and the divine decree—whether it is for you or against, whether it grants you honour or humiliation, whether in wealth or poverty, whether in health or sickness, in what you love and hate.

O People! Follow so that you may be followed, serve so that you may be served. Follow destiny and decree and serve it so that they may follow you and serve you. Submit to them so that they may submit to you. Haven’t you heard: ‘As you do, so shall be done unto you. As you are, so shall authority be conferred upon you.’

Your deeds are your agents. The Lord does not oppress His servants. He recompenses little with a lot. He does not call that which is correct as ‘false’ nor does he declare the truthful one as ‘a liar.’
