I encourage Somalis to grow this damn tree rather than importing it from our enemey state and supporting their farmers, I was watching a video yesterday where a professor at Hargeisa university said SL spends $ 400k a day on khat alone, that is 146 million a year.
:snoop:

Isn’t khat bad? Why would you be happy about somalis being able to grow it themselves? :hmm:

Yes it is bad but if we are going to chew it, it is better we support our own farmers rather than Ethiopians cashing in.

:comeon:

Yh it can be grown in the Sanaag highlands easily. It always rains there so there is no lack of water.

yeah true

He is right sxb, many states here in the US were filing bankruptcy untill they made growing marijuana legal and it has contributed alot to the economy, Colorado,Oregan,Washington all make half a billion dollar a year in each in taxes, that income/money used to go to Mexico before, Somalis will not stop chewing it so why not use this to our advantage.

It is the same with the cement plant, instead of building their own cement plant they import it from Oman  .

Khat is barely taxed as it is in Somalia. We need at least a minimum 50% excise tax that would make it a luxury. Guarantee that our gdp will increase by 50% overnight.

Nothing else will get those idle addicts increase their productivity than increasing the price of khat.

It is taxed a lot in the north actually. Problem is that tax money isn't used to build infrastructure but is usually embezzled.

If it was grown domestically we'd be able to more easily track the tax revenues and keep the gov accountable. I'm guessing most the current taxes are "unofficial".
