Austria bans Muslim headscarf in primary schools

Austria has passed a law intended to ban Muslim girls from wearing a headscarf in primary schools. The Jewish yarmulke and Sikh patka are not included in the new measure.

Austria's parliament has passed a law intended to ban Muslim girls from wearing the headscarf in primary schools, a measure that is likely to be challenged as discriminatory in the constitutional court.

The bill passed with the support of the governing center-right People's Party (ÖVP) and the far-right Freedom Party (FPÖ). Almost all of the opposition voted against it.

To avoid the impression that it targets Muslims, the text refers to any "ideologically or religiously influenced clothing which is associated with the covering of the head."

The government said late Wednesday that the patka head covering worn by Sikh boys or the Jewish yarmulke would not be affected because the law refers to head garments that "cover all of the hair or large parts of it." Exceptions are made for head coverings for medical reasons or protection against rain or snow.

They should ban themselfs for giving birth to hitler and losing the war smh

They aren’t banning hijab, but only for children who isn’t fard the hijab on them. The hijab was intended to cover the “cawra” of a woman and not the sexualisation of children. Not a bad law.

How about the girl wants to wear her hijab?
@Yusra Luuza

It isn’t obligatory on these little girls to wear it and the law says no, she can wear when it’s required of her to wear it. Do you think Somali girls as young as 3-4 years old wearing the hijab is all voluntary? The Arabs like the Saudis who are more conservative than us don’t don hijab on little girls like us.

westerners have lot patience with islamic ways.its their country and run as they see fit. every otha religion integrates but muslims just wana remain a sore and expect be respected.

A mere finger can’t obscure the sun.
Little girls don’t need to wear it. They shouldn’t be wearing it.

If they’re banning religious garments for primary school students, it should include all religious garments not just headscarfs. Lets be fair.

hijab is only obliged when they reach puberty before that is not really necessary. Some somalis seriously need to chill and instead focus on discipline and practicing how to pray to their children the hijab can be later

I know it’s not obligatory and there is young girls like to wear hijab. They have rights too you know.
Also I never seen a girl young as 3 or 4 years old wears a hijab. I have only seen girls who wear hijab at 6 years old and up.
Look once these girls get older they can choose to wear hijab or not. Nobody is forcing them to wear it and I know plenty of girls who used to be hijabi.
