Australian Women who lived with Afar nomads for 31 years

Has anyone heard of this story? I find it truly remarkable.....

-Her name is Valerie Browning. She first went to the Afar region to volunteer during a drought & famine in 1973, travelled back end forth till she settled there permanently in 1989
-Married an Afar Muslim, she remains a devout Christian
-Her work focuses on improving maternal care, and reducing child mortality rates

Just look at the conditions she lives in :mindblown:

Her skin is falling off, she wasn't built to live in that heat.

She's from literally the most prosperous and liveable country on earth and she decides to settle in the Afar Desert !!

An interview with Valerie Browning

"I Live here and I will die here"

I don't understand it at all; it doesn't make any sense to permanently relocate there; even if I was an Afar, I would take my serrated teeth little self out of that open air cauldron.

I've heard of her before. She's a great human being for giving up her life for civilizing this isolated cushitic tribe. Afar women were barechested until the early 2000s
