Assad back in Aleppo for the first time since 2011

I'm surprised he's still well liked even though more than 500k+ Arap Syrians died and around 13 millions fled the country.

Assad is Siad Barre if he won the civil war. A tyrant > Anarchy

Syria will rebuild before us
Yes I agree, however Assad is much much much worse than MSB. You are also right about them rebuilding before us, they are getting help from Russia, and most likely China, which will lead to an infrastructure that's rebuilt quickly. Even arap countries like UAE and Saudi Arabia, the main financers of the rebels have started to fix relations with Assad.

In 2 decades time if Syria is rebuilt, he will be seen as the hero who fought the evil West and liberated Syria.

Also the fact the Syrian opposition is fairly useless and prone to radicalization. If they cant unite to topple Assad, how can they run a country?

They are pretty much defeated according to most analysts, their arap financiers have basically stopped funding them and I doubt Turkey would help them again. Assad played the long game and won.

Im doubtful, large amount of the population, especially those with skills and im general, the upper class have left. All the syrians I have met are disillusionised with the country. They have lost hope, all of it. The amount of foreign meddling that country has seen is astounishing.

Somalia has a very rocky road ahead, but it not as much of a clusterfuck as Syria which is remarkable. I don’t see Assad finding his way out of this mess. He has alienated too many people.

The conflict started a decade ago, I don’t expect anything to change this decade while in Somalia, I will judge the trajectory after HSM term.

The well off Syrians I met support Assad, Asad was able to exploit internal Sunni class divisions in his own favor.

There are cities in Syria that look untouched, like Tartus&Latakia

He will be remembered as the man that made 1/4 of the country refugees and destroyed his country to consolidate his power. He and his father are only loved by the Alawi/Shia/Druze/Christian population. The opposition would’ve removed that nigga in 2014 but Russian intervention ruined them.
He most likely will meet the same fate as the likes of Gaddafi, Ben Ali, Hosni Mubarak or Ali Abdullah Saleh, overthrown in a second revolution

If our civil war happened 20 years later, the opposition would have been taken over by radical terrorists like everywhere else in the muslim world. It would be siad barre vs al shabab.

I disagree, Syria is already more united than Somalia. They have Russia, China and Gulf States that all support them. In 10 years time, I won’t be surprised if they are going through an economic boom whilst South Somalia is still half controlled by Al Shabab, with a weak FGS and mini independent clan states.
