As reer SWS we are against Somalia having a two party system. The number of parties should be unlimited and open. Anyone should be able to open a party.

If a two party system is implemented I have great fears that it will carry on the dark legacy of the past 60 years of hawiye and Daarood domination of Somalia. Will these two parties be hawiye and Daarood?

Parties also shouldn't be based on tribal affiliation rather it should be based on ideologies and a set of shared beliefs on how the country should be governed.

Democracy not gonna magically solve our problems need security and stable finances. Imagine postponing elections because you don’t have money which happened in somaliland recipe for disaster

Very true. Eventually it would be good for Somalia. But right now we don't even have the whole country under control. We have half the country under AS, Somaliland and puntland acting like sovereign nations and many other issues. We aren't ready to make huge changes to the dastuur like this one.

Also once we eventually reach a point where we can move to 1 man 1 vote it's best to keep parties open in terms of numbers. Restricting them to two is not a good idea.

I would agree currently. Many people believe that if we move to one man one vote, it will be better for minorities. I disagree. We don't even have the country under control. How can we even do 1 man 1 vote. It will take at least a decade to reach that position.

2 party system is retarded. Why have only 2. It only has 2 ideals. We need independent parties too. Multiple with different thoughts. Although there will always be 2 dominant parties.


In a electron we shoudlnt allow smaller parties to merge with larger parties to gain a majoirity as this in my opinion isnt fair. We ever gets the most votes win

you would prefer a government circus with multiple parties with an already unstable nation? its bad enough that qabil heavily influences politics and you want to make it worse, people will definitely vote and create parties on clan lines and this isnt changing anytime soon nothing would ever get done, no bill or law would ever be passed, a hundred qabil based parties would squabble and make war with each other, two party system while not perfect is better and gives more stability.

I don't know how you came to the conclusion that a two party system would be Hawiye and Darood.

We already have a clan based governance system. But despite this, the sub-clans of those two clans aren't always politically allied.

A multi-party system is preferable, but we need to make sure that it will not result in clan parties, since that's what happened last time we implemented a similar system.

People from the north should go south and the people from the south should go north and campaign and convince people as to why they deserve to be elected. Each district chooses who to vote for. This gets rid of the demand characteristics leading to a prosperous somali homeland

Truth is it always comes down to 2 parties. Look at other multi party nations, while 3rd parties may win from time to time. The majority get behind one of two parties, this is often split between the capital focused party and the social focused party. I agree we'd do better with a multi party system as it means parties will have to form coalitions in order to gain power. We have to ensure that parties are not formed on clan basis but in fact a political vision for the nation.
