Anyone here ever thought of becoming a landlord?

I used to hate landlords but honestly now I’ve realized the best way to make money in this economy without killing yourself in the rat race is to buy properties and rent them out. A lot of people have become millionaires by buying and renting properties.

I’m thinking of saving up for a condo and renting that out to start with. Then when I get some more money, buy a duplex and rent that out to at least 2 tenants, and so on.

I live in a small city that has a pretty low cost of living so I think I can save enough for the condo at least.

Is anyone here a landlord? How is it?

I use to hate them when I discovered Communism.

Now that I'm older I've considered becoming one.

Lmfao. Aren't you in B.C.? Don't waste your time, money and ruin your mental health. B.C. has rent control, pro-tenant/anti-landlord laws and their resolution office will very likely have a months long wait time before you can even get a hearing to evict deadbeat tenants. They can do a lot of damage in 3-12 months. I don't think the wait time is a flaw but a feature to protect tenants. It's also no surprise that pro-tenant/anti-landlord jurisdictions have the highest rents but that is due to supply because fewer people want to operate in an unfriendly business environment. If you want to be a landchad, you should operate where "tenants' rights" are weak. Otherwise, you're asking for a very bad time.

Alberta, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan, and Nunavut. They take property rights and contracts seriously.
