I remember I was once at my mothers house the police knocked. A family member opened the door and they asked for my brother. We told them he wasn't home and we have no clue on his whereabouts. We lied, he was upstairs hiding lol.
They told us the have seen his car (he was the registered owner) parked nearby. Next thing I knew one of them started to search the property, opening closets, examining personal belongings etc. I was confused. So in a very calm and authoritative voice I said...
Excuuuuuse me officer, I believe YOU need a warrant to search this property. May I have your badge number, name and ID? Immediately! -- I said this in an extra posh voice. Think of Severus Snape from Harry Potter or Scar from The Lion King.
When he stood in silence. I then clicked my fingers twice. As if to indicate to hurry up and give me your details.
HaYaaaaaaaaaaaaaY - this cop got so angry with me he started to shout in my face talking about he has permission to search the house and talked about some BS statue law that gives the right. Even the other cop had to hold him back a bit.
Long story short, my brother heard the commotion and revealed himself. They arrested him and took him for questioning. Until this day we have no idea what trouble he was involved in. But moral of the story, when you deal with police or anyone in a position like that be calm, know your rights and try and understand how the law works.
