-densely inhabited country with a huge young population
-lots of empty desert for solar power
-free flow of foreign currency from tourism
-strong military government that keeps the peace
-steady GDP growth (4.2%)
-surrounded by wealthy economies in the EU, KSA, israel which they have good relations

solid building blocks for industrialization, as long as sisi can keep the country stable they can become a developed country

Egypt managed to quadruple per capita income over 5 decades despite the population being tripled without oil. If they had gotten control of population growth they'd genuinely be a upper middle income country and close to Iran/Turkey by now.

Something is off with Egypt man, it feels closer to Pakistan than Indoensia despite it's HDI being the same as Indonesia.

Probably because Egypt wasted their time and money losing wars to Israel. Also the overly dense population causing subcontinent levels of third world misery. their doing something about that with the new capital at least, I believe it’s a good long term investment

I'd surmise Pakistan has higher human capital than Egypt.

You need to get into what is happening in egypt more in depth, it is a country that makes itself afloat by relying on aid money from UAE, KSA, and US. UAE itself has huge influence on Egypt to the extend, Egypt can't do much to support sudanese head of state Al-Burhan while it wants to stabilize its southern neighbor and help against Hemedetti who has interest in supporting Ethiopia.

Egypt currency was in a decline for the last 10 years thanks to the idiotic El-sisi and his worthless economic ambitions that cost Egypt billions of dollars without any return other than massive debt, investors exiting the market, shortage of dollars.

Cost of living skyrocketed, middle class decreasing, and the amount of people who are under poverty line increased.

He tried to overcome this by making Egypt become a slave to UAE and KSA, sold many state businesses to them, joined their conflicts although he didn't want, and now, Sudan, one of the most crucial states to Egypt descending into chaos and ethnic cleansing and they can't show support because UAE is on the Hemedetti's side.

This country has huge potential, but with incompetent leader like El-sisi, who won a third term in questionable election, will drive this country into a failed state.

I work with a lot of Egyptian doctors and Nigerian doctors I find it so sad that these people got educated in their countries only to spend practicing in these western countries the same is happening in Kenya they all want to immigrate to the west so what happens is healthcare suffers back home.

yeah egypt is broke as f*ck so they'll do anything for foreign money and investment, it all depends on sisi playing a balancing act with the regional powers and egypts internal stability. he absolutely can't afford to not be friends with the emiratis as they both share the same enemy, muslim brotherhood.

they even used to beef with turkey over this but it's relations have improved because of turkeys financial needs which is HUGE. at the end of the day egypt wants money and the saudis/UAE have loads of it.

the average egyptian getting poorer is irrelevant long term imo, if anything it means cheaper labour to build solar farms in the desert. game is game, the only concern for the government is making sure another revolution doesnt happen, and that's well under control

egypts geopolitics are extremely complex, i could go on about the suez, sudan, gaza, red sea, ethiopia etc. but i have the feeling that sisi's government is shrewd to get a decent deal out of all of this.
