Apparantly its either makrooh or haram. Bc the harm of it is alot more than the benefit and there is no point in playing it.

But chess isn't like any other board game or card games. It's not inherently gambling either . IMO it falls under the category of sports should be treated as such.

I had been wanting to post the clip about video games, everyone knows they're very popular.

As for chess... I haven't really looked into it in detail but I have a lot of respect for Sheikh Ibn Baz, one of the greatest scholars of modern times, and I'd rather err on the side of caution and I urge others to do the same. It definitely seems that the safer thing to do with chess is to avoid it.

by that logic video games are haraam and all worldly things are as well since they can potentially distract you from your prayers.

You shouldn’t play any sports, watch tv, be on social media or do anything entertaining. Chess is a hobby no different than any other. Don’t see why it should be singled out.
