FYI The elephant shrew was found in Djibouti. It's still extinct in Somalia.
Just because an Cadaan guy couldn't find it, it doesn't mean it went extinct lol. The local Somalis on the team already knew about it and were surprised to find out it was one of the top 25 most wanted lost species.

There are two types of elephant shrews in Somali lands: "The Somali Senge" and "The Somali Rufous Sengi"

The latter isn't extinct in Somalia. It lives in bushes in sandy soils.

The Somali sengi's habitat is along the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden coast. It lives in rocky terrains. The somali senge has a tuft on its tail, the other doesn't.

In Af-Soomaali, the elephant shrew is called Walo or Walo-sandheere.

The difference is that cadaans catalogue and follow up on the animals that's why it's labelled extinct if they can't find them if there was similar organization back home they would not unilaterally declare animals extinct.
