Because he may not believe in his Amhara region ability to contain Tigray especially if they're also fighting the OLA. Or maybe he doesn't trust that Abiy and the Ethiopian military is strong enough to contain tigrayan forces.

It's only stupid because it's not in accordance with YOUR beliefs or desires or interests.
Otherwise, you've failed to present credible, logical reasons as to why it's ''stupid.''
Whether we secede or not, remains to be seen, but the fact is, for better or worse, our fate is intertwined with Ethiopia as a whole.
Also, keep in mind, if you will, that an Oromo's relationship with the state of Ethiopia is much different than a Somali. Our relationship with the state is far more complex.

I support either position depending on the situation.
Secession if it gets too painfully obvious that we cannot co-exist in peace.
But, federalism, with more autonomy to all the states, is preferred, if we wish to avoid never ending border/land disputes/wars.
None of us agree on our borders, let's be honest, from oromia-somali, to afar-somali, to tigray-amhara, to tigray-afar, and so on and so forth.
