exactly. I’m doing undergrad right now and I have 0 need for student loans.it depends
The smart one don’t take student loans for undergrad (bachelors)…if your low income ( 95% of Somalis are low income on paper) and go to community college or state schoool (I.e. metro state) and live at home you shouldn’t need student loans because the grants will cover most if not all tuition and books..
Grad school (masters +) is a whole different story…most people that go to grad school or professional school (med, law, mba) will need to take student loans because they are much more expensive and grants won’t fully cover the cost of tuition.
Somalis going to private university may get diversity scholarship..however many end up taking loans to live on campus to “experience” college life..
then you have the Somalis who go to expensive college and take out maximum loan to finance their lifestyle..typical cadaan mentality! These guys are a lost cause.. they usually go to liberal art college and end up becoming sjw, crazy feminist..
some Somalis don’t know much of what they are doing and don’t have guidance end up taking student loans to pay for college when there are other options
every situation is different but I would say more and more Somalis are taking students loans…just like more are financing their cars, house and vacation…our parents used Ayuuto to save money, buy used cars, and start businesses from scratch, our generation is the opposite, we are becoming more like cadaan financing everything, while sipping our Starbucks latte with cheese danish while charging it to our credit card..

I’m paying it all of with mostly grants and some money I make through a job.
Just this year I get 8K in grants and my tuition is 7.7K, if you include the cost of textbooks and commute I’ll have enough for the whole year lol.
and @AbdiGaalDoon wants to vote in conservatives or ppc that would call this “socialism”.
If socialism can get me through undergrad without any debt then it’s a good thing lol.
In Australia, tuition is around 6 to 10K AUD maximum.
The government automatically loans everyone money each semester unless you pay the semesters fees before they do it for you.
Somalis rarely qualify for scholarships in Australia so everyone takes student loans in which the interest rate is equal to the inflation rate.
You also don’t need to pay the student loan back until you earn above 70K a year.
The sheikhs here have accepted it because it’s the only way for most people to study.
The United States has the highest Somali home ownership rate. Some states higher than others though because of the price tag.I've heard that Somalis in Australia tend to be more financially stable than other diaspora. Is it true a lot of Somalis there are home owners ect?

America is different. Housing prices are dirt cheap. In London, the average 3 bedroom is half a million pounds. Outside £200,000.
Riba nonsense is from the older generation, which some of them live on cyer.Lots of Scandinavians take the maximum amount of student loan + grants and invest the remaining amounts after expenses, its smart because you can save for the house downpayment and become more wealthy.
Those who have a problem riba because its haram have no right to talk about homeownership, your fate is to rent a house for the rest of your life, you might boast having zero debt, thats ok, but you also let your children inherit no wealth so they have to start saving up for themselves.
