The FGS will defo have talks with Shabaab, it’s in the plans. HSM has not made it a secret. The question is what parts of Somalia are they allowed to rule and how the Somali state can be structured to allow both to co-exist without them continuing as a terrorist group. Things that we’ll likely do is change the constitution to not contradict Islamic shariah, exit of all foreign forces, allow Shabaab to become a political entity and control parts of the South where citizens are likely to support them.

If they moderate and stay in the Deep South I don’t particularly care, rather we just end the war with a political settlement if we could. But they won’t be open to one till they see it as existential for their survival.
There isn’t an existential threat to their survival. There is a bloody war between Abgaal sub clans which they are exploiting to their benefit. Instead of fighting Al Shabab, Hawiye are fighting themselves. Let’s not forget Murusade, Gaaljecel etc are staunch Al Shabab supporters.

They have too much blood on their hands for peace deal. negotiations wouldn’t be favoured by IC aswell and we’d finally adopt the idea that Somalis are terrorists. The country would remain no fly zone and Somali passport would never recover.
