ALI IBN ABI TALIB - Jet Black

Gonna take a break from my usual Political/Historical Threads that could get me raided, So this is a Islamic Historical thread.

Most are unaware that Ali Ibn ali Taalib has been described as being Adaam Shadeed Al Udmah ( jet black in complexion). There are two main chains of narrations that describe him as jet black in complexion and strangely enough, they are the two that are narrated by most of the respected scholars and historians. The narrations can be found in just about every book and although one of them comes from a chain that has Al Waqdy in it , the scholars have still accepted it due to how it corroborates with the fact that the original Arabs were black and brown in all hues and the fact that is corroborates with the other hadith that is from a stronger chain:

Ansaab Al Ashraaf, Chapter 2 page 868 by Al Baladhaari

”Ali ibn Abi Taalib as Adam Shadeed Al-Udma (black-skinned)

وكان علي آدم شديد الادمة، ثقيل العينين، ضخم البطن، أصلع ذا عضلات ومناكب، في أذنيه شعر قد خرج من أذنه، وكان إلى القصر أقرب

Another narration in the same book states that Ali Ibn Abi Taalib was of a lighter hue of black . ” If you looked at him, you’d think that he was Adaam in complexion but if you came a little closer you’d see that he is actually Asmar in complexion leaning towards being Adaam in complexion.

إِنَّ شِئْتَ قُلْتَ إِذَا نَظَرْتَ إِلَيْهِ: هُوَ آدَمُ، وَإِنِ تَبَيَّنْتَهُ مِنْ قَرِيبٍ قُلْتَ: أَنْ يَكُونَ أَسْمَرَ أَدْنَى مِنْ أَنَّ يَكُونَ آدَمَ

However , the majority of the scholars are with the view that he was jet black


In Taarikh Al Islaam, page 227 , Imaam Al-Dhahabi narrates a hadith about Ali ibn Abi Taalib which describes him as Adam Shadeed Al-Udma (black-skinned)

. وعن أبي جعفر الباقر قال: كان علي آدم، شديد الأدمة، ثقيل العينين، عظيمهما، وهو إلى القصر أقرب.


Ibn Jawzi narrates Ali ibn Abi Taalib as Adam Shadeed Al-Udma (black-skinned) in his book Safwat Al-Safwa page 308.


Al-Suyuti narrates Ali ibn Abi Taalib as shadeed al-udma (black-skinned) here in Taarikh Al-Khulafaa on page 134 .
”Ali was a heavyset, bald, hairy man of average height which leaned toward shortness. He had a large stomach and a large beard which filled all that was between his shoulders. His beard was white as if it was cotton and he was a black-skinned man”

‏‏”‏‏و‏ ‏كان‏‏ ‏علي‏ (بن‏ ‏ابي‏ ‏طالب )‏شيخا‏،‏ ‏سمينا،‏ ‏‏أ‏صلع،‏‏ ‏كثير‏ ‏الشعر،‏ ‏ربعة‏ ‏الى‏ ‏القصر،‏ ‏عظيم‏ ‏البطن،‏ ‏عظيم‏ ‏اللحية‏ ‏جدا،‏ ‏قد‏ ‏ملأت‏ ‏ما‏ ‏بين‏ ‏منكبيه،‏ ‏بيضاء‏ ‏كأنها‏ ‏قطن،‏ ‏آدم‏ ‏شديد‏ ‏الأدمة‏“‏.‏


Ibn Abdel Barr narrates Ali ibn Abi Taalib as Shadeed Al Udma in his book Al Istiyaab fi Marafti Al Ashaab, pages 1110-1111

وسئل أبو جعفر محمد بن علي بن الحسين عن صفة علي رضي الله عنه فقال: كان رجلاً آدم شديد الأدمة، مقبل العينين عظيمهما ذا بطن أصلع ربعة إلى القصر لا يخضب


Ahmed ibn ‘Amru ibn Al-Dahhaak Abu Bakr Al-Shaibaani describes Ali ibn Abi Taalib (RAA) as shadeed al-udma (black-skinned) page 81

و من ذكر علي بن أبي طالب
ابن عَبْد المطلب بن هاشم بن عَبْد مناف بن قصي بن مرة بن كعب بن لؤي يكنى أبا الحسن رَضِيَ الله تعالى عنه واسم أبي طالب عَبْد مناف بن عَبْد المطلب واسم عَبْد المطلب شيبة بن هاشم واسم هاشم عَمْرو بن عب مناف واسم عَبْد مناف المغيرة قصي واسم قصي زيد بن كلاب بن مرة بن كعب بن لؤي وكان آدم شديد الأدمة ثقيل العينين عظيمها وقد قالوا أعمش ذا بطن سمنا أصلع دون الربعة عظيم اللحية رضوان الله عليه

Ibn Asaakir narrates in Taarikh Dimasq, Chapter 2 , page 12

وقال زهير بْن معاوية : كَانَ علي يكنى أبا قاسم ، وكان رجلًا آدم شديد الأدمة ، ثقيل العينين عظيمهما ، ذا بطن ، أصلع ، وهو إلى قصر أقرب ، وكان أبيض الرأس واللحية ،

Mohamed ibn Talha Al-Shaafa’ie and Al-Safadi also describe Ali ibn Abi Taalib as Shadeed Al-Udma in their books.

I have proof that Arabs were dark skinned with macawiis just like us and it wasn't even south Arabians but the ones in Syria and it was during the time of the Byzantines ganna shock all these niggas curly hair dark skin and caucasoid

This is like saying Taliye Landherr is very dark but when you examine him closely, he's kind of brown

To be honest some complexions are like that, but for Ali ibn Talibs case him being Shadidul udma has more strength then Asmar.
