African intelligentsia

I've been reading about the poltical history of china and other countries and it's fascinating to reading about how active their intellectuals were in the novels and magazines they wrote . Even till the ones now. I'm having trouble finding this for africa. Does anyone have books about the history of the african intelligentsia and that talk about both the past or today. Also I already ordered the book by ali mazrui so give me other recommendations or if you have any info on this topic.
