He's biased. When the Swahili paper last year came out he was coping hard tryna claim the origin of Swahili culture was bantu instead of being Persian/Indian muwallads.

The Swahili coast starts in the coastal city of Mogadishu, going all the way down to Mozambique. Mogadishu, going down to Mozambique, was all inhabited by the same group of people with a similar culture and language.

The history of the Mogadishu is part of the history of the East African Swahili coast. The Swahili culture that evolved on the Banadir coast was the result of the contact of Arab-Islamic civilization on the coast with the Bantu culture of the hinterland.

How more uninformed can you get?

What did you expect from someone that is pro-secession in Somalia but supports the unity of Ethiopia? There is no objectivity from individuals like that. I do wish people simply countered him based on sources and facts rather than using slurs like a retard.

Baraawe, a city that debended on the interiors products, ruled by the Tunni but somehow swahili. The ”swahilis” there are are not even 100% or even 50% bantu, they look timojileec.

The Swahili≠Bantu point should be emphasized more. I listened in a bit on these Somali dudes playing defence in their twitter space last night, they were constantly falling into the Swahili=Bantu trap. Therein lies the root problem.

Swahili as a Bantu people isn't a real organic product from the collective consciousness of these coastal communities. Before 20th century these people self-identified as Arab or Shirazi (Persians). Call them Sabaki speakers all you want but the Ba Alawi of the Comoros, Mahdali of Kilwa and the Mazroui of Mombasa knew who they were. The active ingredients in the Swahili identity were: Islamic faith, substantial foreign ancestry from Asia (Arab/Persian/Indian), and speaking a dialect in the continuum. The closest people to the original Bantu component in Swahili via linguistics would be the Pokomo who live upstream from Lamu along the Tana. But we know the Bantu ancestry in these coastal communities was taken from all over east Africa and well into the interior from the Congo basin to Mozambique due to the Indian ocean slave trade.

That part of East Africa was like Paraguay. A country of mestizos, with an unmixed foreign minority, that uses an indigenous language as their lingua franca despite the colonizers dominating for most of the last millennium. Not even the most aggressive anticolonial crusader against racist European anthropology/archaeology would attribute Paraguay to Amerindians.

True. Nyika Bantus claiming the Swahili has been the greatest victory for Hoteppry and cope since Northern European people claimed Rome was a European civilization instead of a Mediterranean civilization.
