its practically unavoidable, if oil was found in Somalia today, they would all sweep in. not enough somalis are rich enough/ in high enough positions to prevent this- only help would be allies. they'd be too busy fighting over which qabiil can lay claim to the oil

Yes, colonialism does play a part, but it's just a small part. We have failed on our own, just like other nations. We had the chance to build a prosperous country, but when you have people of low IQ & corrupt moral standards in charge, then there's almost no hope for you.

Countries that have been invaded and crushed have come back, rebuilt, and become prosperous. Take Japan, for example. In 1961 South Korea had a GDP per capita of 91$ Somalia was at 62$. Also in 1960 Singapore had a GDP per capita of 400$. Bad decisions have compounding effects.

Africa has no infrastructure, no capital, no specialty skills. There is no monopoly of power strong enough for the government to enforce a population to industrialize like Stalin or Mao did.

south Korea had billions of dollars poured into It to develop from US aid. Same as Japan after they were bombed

Doesn't matter, Somalia has also received aid, and there are many other countries that have received much more aid than Japan and South Korea but are failed states. The aid is just one small factor that contributed to their development.

@internet nomad (can’t tag your name) shares this excerpt. They aid these nations have compared to African countries cannot compare

“South Korea, benefited from big injections of foreign aid, first from the US, then Japan. A briefing paper from KoFID, a South Korean network of civil society organisations, and ReDI, a South Korean thinktank, points out that the US offered about $60bn in grants and loans to South Korea between 1946 and 1978. In the same period, the total amount of aid provided by the US to the entire African continent was $68.9bn.”

There needs to be one group who holds a monopoly on power to make sure that factions in leadership don't start fighting over who owns the recourses and a proper plan can be made.
Somalia should make it self stable first before it starts drilling for these oils and natural gas. We should try triplicate what the Saudis and other gulf states did but obviously use the money on making the state powerful with its own strong military and potentiality even nukes to deter foreigners from invading.

By the time an incompetent somali government takes action, the demand for oil would have been destroyed.

The price of oil will continue to fall, accelerating at an increasingly rapid pace. The breakeven prices will no longer be feasible for investors, and the discussions around oil potential will likely fade away soon. Zoom, Teams, and other remote collaboration tools are revolutionizing the way we work. electric cars and other renewable energy sources will continue to diminish the dominance of oil. These advancements are gradually destroying the demand for oil.
