After the Sayid's death, he returned to Somalia, igniting a rebellion against Italian rule from the Ogaden. Despite capture and imprisonment in Eritrea, his spirit remained unbroken. He escaped once again rebelling from the Ogaden against Italian rule. This time he would connect with the two other Majeerteen rebel leaders, Omar Samatar and Hirsi Boqor in Qoraxey/Doollo. On November 23rd, 1927, they would lead a combined Majeerteen, Ogaden, and Marehan rebel force and attack a convoy headed by De Vecchi composed of both native and foreign brigands In the daring attacks, the Somali rebels would kill over 50 men from the Italian forces For Abshir, however, this would be his final attack, and he would tragically die at the wells of Garloogubay
