Amhara is similar to Oromos, a ‘confederation’ of people with different backgrounds and their language being the common denominator. A shared Amhara culture/identity have more or less been established over the years. However, there’re Amharazied people (especially in the Amhara region) with their own language, though not used and on verge of extinction, like the Qemant people.

Again, like the Oromos, it’s not uncommon to denote and distinguish Amharas after their regions, with whom they are closest to each other, such as shewa, wollo, gondar, gojjam etc.
