Hargeisa-based poet accepts job offered by Somali government

Mogadishu (HOL) - Yusuf Osman Abdulle (Yusuf Sha'ir), a well-known Somali poet based in the breakaway Somaliland has accepted to join a panel of Somali-language experts recently appointed by Somalia's education ministry.

I mean it makes sense, the panel is multi-national of all the Somali speaking nations.

Not including Somaliland experts would have been disastrous, as they have their own variation of Somali.

I am surprised he took the role without pay but it has the potential of further strengthening the Somali language and that is above all politics.

This is a non story honestly, this is apolitical. I have a feeling many folks from SL who go to neighbouring Somalia to work in the state or private sectors are those who support SL independence in their hearts but want to become dual citizens so as to make a living without fuss

Sxb you are aware original Somali is from Mudug. It is the only version of maxaa tiri with minimal loanwords.

Somaliland Somali is derived from Mudug Somali but with more loanwords and other minor differences.

You are right however, that Benadiri Somali is very different to the rest of Maxaa tiri.
