If we are talking most common recent ancestor regardless of the maternal or paternal lines, we are talking about a man or woman who could have lived as close as 150 years ago.

All the 1.3 billen people of European descendant share a recent ancestor from just 600 years ago. We know that during the early 20th century we were about ~2-3 million strong in our totality, and in the middle ages about 500k strong.
