I suspect there are lots of people who say their religious but are secretly athiest. Would you say thats true in Somali groups as well?

Without a shadow of a doubt, Somali men are more sexist and misogynistic than American men. Remember, Somalis come from highly patriarchal society where men blatantly and enthusiastically oppressed women for centuries. Thankfully, the culture is changing and Somalis who are educated are waking up to the rights our mothers and sisters deserve.

I deal with this a lot working in customer service in St. Paul as a white lady. It's kind of frustrating.

Are Somali women strictly protected by their families to restrict their habits like going out and meeting men?

For example, I was once was at a bar on the West Bank (Nomad Pub) having a few drinks and was approached by young Somali girl. She was probably just over 21 as the bar is 21-plus only. She was flirting and coming onto me but I was trying to ignore her (as I have a long-time girlfriend). Eventually she disappeared for a little bit down the bar somewhere. A little time passed and all of a sudden an older man comes barging into the bar to practically tears her out of there and forces her into a car outside. He was pissed and she seemed pretty perturbed and embarrassed by the event.

Why are Somali Women SO LOUD? I every time I pass a group of them the conversation level is so loud. Is it a cultural thing or a language thing?

I thought our rep here was decent compared to Europe!

To be fair, i was surprised that most of the questions and answers were tame.

There was even an cadaan guy praising Somali work ethic as seen in the businesses they own and that many somalis are enrolled at his university.

This fear of dogs is something very strange. A cadaan guy asked me once why Somalis are so scared of dogs. The embarrassment that crept up on me alongside the surprise at being asked such a question rendered me speechless.

Somalis in NA (especially Minnesota) hustle for their dollar. Granted the welfare system doesn't allow for much else so that might be why.

At times it feels like this Somali dude's answers are more belittling than the somewhat tame cadaan questions.

Statistically speaking they're the best Somalis and more or less equal their country's employment and scholastic achievements.

They just fraud their earnings for tax benefits like mafia kingpins.

"I work with many Somalis and have always wondered curiously to myself, but have been nervous to ask, as it seems kinda mean or weird to bring up anywhere. It reminds me of fresh corn tortilla chips, which heck, is a great smell, I've just always found it different.

I suppose western culture often uses floral scents as personal fragrance, so I'm not used to such a "spice" type.
