I am Somali like you but I also understand our emotional pain that continues to damage our psyche. Our nation cannot heal until we understand that our thoughts are not going to solve what is clearly a very painful downfall of our nation. We need to understand that our thoughts create problems for us in this world and those thoughts that go unexamined can lead us to damage ourselves even more. We need a new way of dealing with this mental crises that has plagued our minds, disturbed our hearts, and has made peace a difficult thing for us in Somalia. We suffer from not being able to see that our thoughts and emotions are nothing more than a conditioning we need to bring awareness too.
What I am talking about is Eckhart Tolle book called the "power of now". I do believe our minds is the key to unlocking a new path for us in this increasingly chaotic world we live in. We are looking for peace but we cannot find it out there but in our own minds by bringing awareness to our thoughts. The stream of consciousness that continues to talk uncontrolled without any interruption. By observing your thoughts you can bring awareness to these random thoughts and begin to separate them from yourself. What remains is like a background awareness that can see these thoughts for what they are. Temporally visitors passing though and not a personal thing that happens uniquely to you. Overcoming this can lead us to understand our problems for the first time and bring healing to our nation instead of repeating the bitter conditioning of our parents who are trap in an egoic mindset. The ego is the false self, the false I that says I am separate from another and believes all those random thoughts to be it. The phrase "I think therefore I am" is an egoic statement as the thinking is not the same as the I am awareness. These two are different and you will know the difference when you can feel that I am-ness by bring a conscious awareness in the form of observing your thoughts as they happen. You will feel, not at first, a sense of well being and over time this well being will deepen. Meditation exercise are good for those who have never experienced what it is like to bring awareness into your life.
Ask me any follow up questions that you may have.
