7 year old maids don't exist back home. She was probably living with a distant relative who was using her as a servant. There are way too many destitute families with many children in somalia and many parents are willing to send some of their children to live with relatives.

I haven’t seen girls younger than 10 , but young teenage girls from poor families (especially Jreerweyne community) are often sent out to wash peoples clothes or work as boyeeso. In Somalia 11/12 years girls are treated like grown women. Even if they don’t go out to work they do cleaning/cooking / taking care of younger siblings.
