“Maanta oo layl ayaan ku sugayay”. What is Layl mean?

I was told to translate the phrase in the title, and I thought "layl" meant "night." I thought for a while and replaced "layl" with "dhan," and it means the same thing. So, I came to the conclusion that "layl" and "dhan" are synonymous and mean "all."

maanta oo layl ayaan la hadlayay isaga.
I was talking to him all day.

You can replace layl with dhan

Maanta oo dhan ayaan la hadlayay isaga.



The second example

Maanta oo layl ayaan sugayay.
I was waiting all day.

You can replace layl with dhan

Maanta oo dhan ayaan sugayay.


BUT

Layl is not synonym with dhan in this sentence.

Biyahaas oo dhan ku shub jeergaankaas.

You cannot replace dhan with layl

Biyahaas oo layl ku shub jeergaankaas.

That is correct Abdalla. I was talking about the behavior of the word ‘layl’ . It has takes a completely new definition when it is in those phrases.
