The question of when someone arrived somewhere is very complicated. For myself for instance do I include my neanderthal ancestors, in which case my ancestors immigrated to Europe about a million years ago, or only my non-neanderthal ancestors, which means about 150,000 years ago, or only my Y-DNA lineage, which means 50,000 years ago, or only people who spoke an indo-european language, which is only 4500 years ago?

It is actually quite simple. Only 2-3% of your ancestry arrived in Europe about 500,000 years ago, while 97-98% didn't (Out-of-Africa).
PS. A big portion of Western European's ancestry is also composed of Western European hunter-gatherers who lived in that region for more than 30,000 years and the Yamnaya/Indo-Europeans came from Eastern Europe (Western Steppes around Ukraine), which is Europe as well.
