He was winning but he massively pushed his luck
Worst part is soviets told him not to enter the war and if he had waited until the collapse of the soviet union and derg he couldve easily taken it without a fight in 91'
Even worse, after taking most of Ogaden he tried pushing for more, and by that point if he accepted talks he couldve kept whatever he had conquered
There was far more to lose than to win and the loss was catastrophic for the country overall

Hindsight is 20/20. He had little choice at that point. He tried every negotiation with the Derg to get galbeed so when diplomancy didn't work, war was the only move left. And with the deteriorating situation in galbeed, he wouldn't have wanted to wait a whole 14 years to invade, especially since the Derg was in the middle of a civil war.
The Soviets betrayed Somalia earlier anyways when they and the Cubans suggested that crappy federation with Ethiopia.
I don't recall reading him doing that. The SNA stopped at Harar.

They were stopped at Harar, also he had plenty of problems back home to deal with, an invasion really shouldnt have been the top priority, who knows with a bit of patience you wouldnt be a goxoti today
