Sons are highly valued in the Somali culture. They are ranked third in the hierarchy after the men and Camels. Back in Jubaland my relatives slaughter a camel or 2 goats for every son that is born. Even in the West Hoyo’s love their sons more and are more forgiving of the son compared to fellow female siblings.

Yes this is true. A Somali woman can have ten kids and only 1 boy, and she’ll call him her only child (maadi?).
Also Somali men prefer boy children just as much. They’reveryrough with their daughters but kiss and hug their sons.
