Djiboutian lahoh..by Hawa.

Not a culinary historian here but it makes sense that both the word for a particular food and the that particular food can have same geographical origin
Likely not CentraSemitic/Arabic word. My hunch is that it wad a YemeniteLanguage/SouthSemitic word that was "borrowed" into Arabic as the original YemeniteLanguages were decimated by linguisticArabization of Yemenites

Did she put onions and turmeric in her cajeero batter? No no no someone stop this lady :noneck: how are you going to eat brown sugar and tea with cajeero that has onions in uff at least make a suqaar for that... my canjeero does not have all that crap she put in, all you need is self rising flour or yeast and regular flour some water, corn four, salt and you have the traditional tasty Somali canjeero/laxoox. You can eat with sugar and tea but I prefer mine with some honey and tea.

Lahooh with egg is called canbabur. We eat them in all 3 mornings of the EID MUBARAK DAYS.

The onions and the spices were not supposed to be processed with the batter, just sit in it through an overnight fermentation process (which she also missed) and then removed. The tumeric is essential lol otherwise it wouldn’t be yellow.
It’s actually very good.
She also needed to put loads of xabasuud in the batter too. So many wrong things in this video...

The only way to eat cambabuur is with yogurt or caana dhanaan/caana garoodh. Free to anyone to add sugar to it, even though the cambabuur itself is supposed to be caramelized on one or both sides another time in the stove.
No one eats it with tea. What would be the

In waqooyi Somali, malawax is the yemeni type of bread, also called sabaya/d. Even oromiffa uses malawax instead of sabaya

Jabaati/Sabaayad and malawax are not the same thing breh, think you are confused:damedamn:

This is not lahooh/canjeelo. It’s cambabur, originated from Djibouti. Lol she remixed the recipe because she added yeast. I’m not sure if u can add yeast, any Djiboutians pls correct me if I’m wrong.

Lahooh/canjeelo need to be fermented overnight. No spice and onion added.

I thought lahoh and canjeelo is the same thing but different name due to regional dialect.

This is cambabuur. It is a staple Eid food and you’ll hardly see any household making it on other occasions. For the rest of the year it’s either lahoh or sometime injera.
Lahoh and canjero are the same thing, it’s just that cambabuur is its own dish.:mybusiness:

I hope you guys can try it at least once. It’s a precious meal Wallahi

Yes it’s a precious meal, I love cambabur with yogurt.
It looks easy to make. I’ll practice and make it on eid inshaallah.
