Puntland to Review Its Membership in Federal Institutions

Garowe (PP News Desk) – With relations between Puntland State and the Federal Government of Somalia at a very low ebb, Puntland Government is planning a high level consultative summit to review the Federal Member State’s membership in the Federal Institutions.

The cause for the review is said to be the aggressive and marginalising policies adopted by the current occupant of Villa Somalia, President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, towards Puntland. Yesterday, Puntland authorities closed branch offices of National Independent Electoral Commission, which has a mandate under the electoral law passed last December by the Federal Parliament to organise one person, one vote elections in parts of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

Puntland State is a constituent and founding member of the Federal Government but hardly enjoys the privilege such membership entails. President Mohamed visited Puntland in 2018 and in 2019. The last visit took place several months after Said Abdullahi Deni took over as a President of Puntland State. Disputes over legislations passed by the Federal Government and educational policies have further driven a wedge between the Federal Government and Puntland State.

If the outcome of the impending consultative summit turns out to be withdrawal from membership in the Federal Institutions, a constitutional crisis may result in either the dissolution or downgrading of the Federal Government, which is planning a two-year extension if election plans fail to come to fruition.

Deni makes mistakes here and there, however he is hellbend in creating an economy in puntland. This move ought to show the fgs that PL is moving forward with or without you.


Personally i like to see somalia balkanize'd it will take until qiyamah to unite the clans. Why not live as neighbours. As it used to be, on the other hand clan warfare might become national warfare if the tribes create their own nations.


However i can see PL going forward and if SL joins the bandwagon as friendly neighbours we finna be good up north, imagine three seperate somali countries in the northern part of the horn all next to each other.

The only issue will be sool and sanaag, i am sure that they will resolve the conflict sooner rather than later.

This union aint working no more, there are groups of peoples that just try to benefit without working for it. This has to end, let them continue that shit while being isolated from the progressive groups.

Puntland urged all of its FGS MP members to join a major conference about the future relationship between Puntland and the FGS in Garowe on 15/03/2020.

This high level consultative summit is to review Puntland State's membership in the Federal Institutions.

Puntland president surrounded by his cabinet announced a major consultative forum on March 15th, 2020. Puntland MPs in FGS from both chambers of the house will participate the major event and the purpose of the summit is to review the deteriorating relationship with the FGS. Deni accused N&N of being hostile towards Federal State Members and suffering from leadership deprivation. He urged all Consequential Somali figures to reject the current FGS administration.

"For months We have urged the FGS administration to narrow down our differences and to seek a fair ground but our efforts were dismissed. Our silence has been interpreted as acceptance of what's going on".
