Is there an obesity epidemic among Somali women ?

I just discovered nearly every Somali woman i encountered whether it is in the streets, work, university and even family members are fat. Furthermore, back at uni there was hardly any slim xalimos which was strange. Hell even in the land of my forefathers (SL) there were more fat women than fat men. Most of the men back there are skinny to slim.
However, apart from pregnancies, what are the factors of xalimos being obese in general?

Well they eat a lot once they hit puberty. They eat the scraps of other people’s dishes oof.

On a serious note, our people are not very active.
Nor do they have any awareness of what nutrition is.
Nor do they desire to improve and change.

Let them eat til they get diabetes and clogged arteries.

Have you noticed the stark difference between Somalis,let's say about 2 centuries ago and the modern Somali females?It's the new diet the Somalis adopted.One with extreme use of subag iyo sonkor.

The Somalis of old would eat food like sorgham and drink camel milk.Caano geel has less fat compared to cow milk which meant that Somali girls could drink it day in day out without gaining substantial amounts of weight.

They used to drink porridge(mishali) everyday in the morning.Porridge provides you with a boost of energy and that energy helped them last the whole day.


Another thing is that Somalis have sadly adopted the culture of overeating(which is prohibited in our religion).
"A believer eats in one intestine (is satisfied with a little food), and a kafir (unbeliever) or a hypocrite eats in seven intestines (eats too much)." This was said by the prophet(SAW) said yet you see all the imaams and sheikhs with bellies the size of pots!Pots!:mindblown:

These things are the major causes of obesity in our community.Stop this and actually implement the teachings of the prophet (SAW)and hopefully it will help us curb this major problem in our community.:kanyehmm:
 
That’s nonsense every race has fat people. Somali Women eat same portion as men, but they are not playing sports burning it off like guys are allowed. We know at Somali parents don’t allow the girls to go join sports cause of the gym uniforms. Fitness is taught at a young age. White people be doing gymnastics, ice skating, and weight training Athletics is part of there culture. Even for boys we should stop wasting time with basketball and start lifting weights at a young age.

Lifting weights stunts your growth especially if you start at a young age.Somalis should instead do calisthenics since it focuses on using your bodyweight to build not only your muscles but stamina and flexibility (in some exercises),instead of free weight where you have to use external weights in order to gain muscle. Free weight is good for when after you reach an optimum height because it's great when you're trying to isolate a particular muscle to increase its growth.

Personally I would not care. I’m tall lanky (ectomorph). I would much rather be average height well built muscle (mesomorph) If it meant sacrificing a couple inches. I’m a hard Gainer.
