In Australia, Canada, America it is Ok and encouraged to call oneself an Australian, American or Canadian. Though 95% of Somalis live in England, they aren’t allowed and wouldn’t be called English, just like those in Scotland or Wales. They’re called British. What happens when Britain disintegrates? Scotland will certainly secede if Brexit passes. The Welsh may decide that they too deserve to become a separate State. Northern Ireland will join the South. I’ve met a 75 year old West Indian whose father was born in England and wasn’t accepted as an Englishman, but Boris Johnson whose grandfather was a citizen of the Othmans/Turkey is accepted as an Englishman. She will always be British but the English consider themselves to be the leaders of the British. An inferior/superior relationship.
