Is preferring looser hair textures self-hate

Texturism: the elevation of looser hair textures over their kinkier counterparts.

Let's talk about texturism in the Somali community. Somalis have a wide range of hair textures. Most of us have type 3c hair.

A good amount of us have type 3b or looser.

But what about our discriminated members with timo Madow? They are mocked for having nappy hair.

How did we as black Africans come to hate our Madow haired minority? They represent our African lineage yet their afros are ruthlessly mocked. Even I, someone who is pro-black, prefer my 3c hair over kinkier textures :wow:

The question is, is it self-hate for us to prefer looser textures?

It varies...

Majority of Somalis have curls but some are kinky and some are soft. There are some with straight hair like myself but for the majority I would say around 3b/3c hair.

For skin colour, the majority are reddish-brown but you'll find plenty of light & dark skins.

Also, the world is currently facing the side effects of colonialism. Anything closer to Euro-centric standard of beauty is considered beautiful. This is why the world is reaped with self-hatred and you'll see black women bleaching their skin and rocking weaves/wigs as if its their own hair.

I am glad i have indian hair may be my ancestors fked some indian women and passed it to me.

It's different. Most black people have 4c afros, so it's clear self-hate when they prefer hair that isn't normally part of their ethnic group. Somalis on the other hand have a variety of textures, most of us being in the type 3 category, so you can argue that it's not self-hate to prefer looser hair. I just wanted to see what other Somalis have to say about this.

Fucking jileec es what are you, women? Wallahi you people are the fruitiest bunch I've seen in all my life on Somali forums. Your ancestors must've passed the Indian brain onto you too.

Why call it "Indian hair"? Straight hair is not exclusively an Indian trait.

Btw, Straight hair is a native trait amongst Ethnic Somalis.

Hair texture is a non issue imo.

Our people tend to have bigger problems. For example having a hairline that starts all the way back in Antarctica.

Sucks for guys but it would be worse for chicks if they didn't have the hijab to hide behind.

No we aren't. But now I keep it short cause I hate having a afro :samwelcome:

I don't think that wanting a looser texture is self-hate. A looser texture is much easier to maintain and style.
