Ahmed Hussen promoted, now oversees national pension, unemployment insurance, other social programs

He now focuses on improving the quality life of Canadians instead of admitting FOBs. I agree that it's a promotion. A very warm congratulations to my MJ cousin.

Is that a junior ministry? Here the immigration portfolio is more sought after by politicians than family and children’s affairs which comes under a senior Minister for Social Services and welfare.

@AussieHustler this is a top federal cabinet position. It consists of numerous portfolios.
This farah has done well for himself.
Even though I detest liberals

@mrlog

Mudane Ahmed is definitely and undeniably a very intelligent and capable politician and he deserved to be promoted because he served very well as a cabinet member. As I said above, families and children portfolio is a junior ministry and is given here to junior ministers. It seems Canada is different.

No you were originally correct - the portfolio of Minister of Immigration is larger in Canada, whereas this new role tends to be for more junior ministers.

In Canada, the order of importance with respect to the various ministers is Prime Minister, followed by the Minister of Finance, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Industry, Minister of Justice, the Minister of Health, Minister of National Defence, and Minister of Immigration and Citizenship.

The Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship guides immigration policy in Canada, whereas the Minister of Families, Children, and Social Development is head of the Department that oversees Employment Insurance, the Canada Pension Plan, and federal student loans. It was created fairly recently in 2013 (it was initially made in 2003 as the Ministry of Human Resources), whereas the portfolio of the Minister of Immigration was created a few years after WW2 - the Minister of Immigration was actually previously also the Minister of Employment, but this role was removed from that Ministry as the role of Immigration Minister was considered too important on it's own in 1966. One role (immigration) guides policy, whereas the other role (families) is the head of a department that provides various social services

I agree with what people are saying above - he has been very competent and professional in his role - it's very odd and unexpected as to why Trudeau has made this move - there should be a lot of information coming out over the next few days.

Absolutely not. You are ignoring the last part of his role, "social development", which is the main piece.

It is definitely more senior than his old post. He was just in charge of the immigration system then, now he controls massive social programs affecting every Canadian.

I believe he also has the biggest ministry in terms of budget and employees. He is also in charge of the national housing agency.

Check @astorecalledkmart’s post.

Sxb, here the immigration ministry has been swallowed up by a new super ministry modelled on the American Homeland Ministry and thus relegated immigration to the role of a junior minister. But Ahmed Hussein’s portfolio seems to be very large as it also touches the financial sector like insurance, superannuation and a plethora of other financial and social related responsibilities. I do agree with others that is is a massive portfolio. But, hey, I’m an Aussie poking his nose where it doesn’t belong.

Actually, on second thought, I think it's actually been the case for the past few years that the Minister of Immigration would eventually assume the role of Minister of Families, Children, and Social Development and vice versa in the years prior to that. In any case, Ahmed Hussein has been scandal free and has done a good job thus far. We'll find out soon enough what the reasoning was for his new portfolio.

P.S. Walaal @AussieHustler as our Somali brother and fellow member of the commonwealth, by all means partake in our politicking - the more the merrier lol

Australians do have a special affection for the Canadians. Trudeau is viewed as a cross of a celebrity and a guru here as most Australians haven’t heard or don’t care about the recent scandal engulfed him early this year.

Trudeau's father was a legend - he completely overhauled Canada's immigration system, fought off French extremism in Quebec, and helped shape Canada's constitution. Trudeau Jr. isn't his father and has had a lot of scandals marring his government, but he's better than the alternative. Many Canadians were living in genuine fear of a Conservative government in Canada with Donald Trump in the White House lol

Really hope that they haven't put him there to frame him for some pension or financial scandal.

Minorities or women are perfect scrapegoats because it's hard for them to climb the career ladder on their own so they're most likely to sign shady deals.
