How the hell can you blow nearly £10 million in a decade?

10 million really isn't that much. Some houses in London cost 1.5-2 million if bought outright. That's already a fifth of his money gone. A lot of the Sports cars he would have driven are over 200k, a fifth of a million. 5 of them would cost a million.

5k a night hotels, in clubs and bars the bill can easily reach 50k, escorts charging 2k per hour. You can probably do this on a rinse and repeat basis every week and travel to the States and do the same thing. All your money will go under 2 years without doubt.

It’s mostly spent on loans and holidays for family and friends

Thats 12 mil usd with that amount in the US in most places besides the ridiculously expensive ones you could spend 1 or 2 million on a mini mansion/mansion , 1 million on a car, put 5 million away for savings and still have 5 million to invest into whatever business if you wanted. "Middle-class" is a large bracket. Doctors and dentists earn millions in America. Software engineers and research scientist earn salaries that go from $100-250k. Successful lawyers and accountants for big firms earn $300-400k/year. It is actually quite easy to become a millionaire in America/UK if you're on a big salary.

P.S. I don't actually believe there is such a thing as "middle-class". It's a nebulous made-up concept used by politicians and capitalists because it serves a purpose in dividing people and stopping class-consciousness.

I think a more accurate term would be "PMC", meaning 'Professional Managerial Class".

Btw London is expensive. It's the UK equivalent of the Bay Area in the US.
